Ironman money making methods, by the numbers
An Ironman can't sell on the Grand Exchange, so every coin comes from a coin drop, a High Level Alchemy cast or a shop counter. Below are 47 money makers with the coins each action is worth, worked out from alch values, shop prices and drop tables. 34 of them come straight from our data; the rest are marked as rough estimates with the assumption written out.
Coins an hour is coins per action times actions an hour, and the hourly rate is yours to set: open any row and drag the slider. Load your name to check your levels and see the three best methods you can start now. For the strategy behind the numbers, read the Ironman money making guide.
Shop prices, alch values and drop tables from the OSRS Wiki, fetched 2026-10-09. All maths and wording are ours.

How the numbers work
Every row is built the same way: what one action earns minus what it costs, from the item data on our item pages. Alching is valued at the item's alch value minus one nature rune (180 coins at the cheapest rune shop), shop sales at what the shop pays for the first one, and purchases at the cheapest shop price. Open a row to see every line of the sum.
From our data means every number in the sum comes from our item, shop or drop data, or is a fixed in-game price such as the 10,000 coins for a pyramid top. Rough estimate means at least one number is our own guess, written out under the row, and you can type your own. Floor means we counted only the drops we have on record, so the real figure is higher.

The one rule: what a cast costs
High Level Alchemy needs 55 Magic and pays the item's alch value in coins. With a fire staff the only rune you spend is a nature rune, which costs 180 coins at the cheapest rune shop price (several shops sell them, such as Tal Teklan in Varlamore). Without a fire staff, add five fire runes: 200 coins a cast. Anything that alchs for less than that loses money, so every figure below subtracts it and ignores items under it.
A cast takes five game ticks, so the most you can cast is 1,200 an hour. That makes alching itself worth at most (alch value − 180) × 1,200 coins an hour: about 705,600 for yew longbows or 46,584,000 for rune platebodies, if you have that many. In practice you alch while doing something else, so the cast time costs you nothing.
Buying from shops to alch: 1 shop items beat the rune cost, but stock is tiny.
Bosses: coins per kill
Expected coins per kill from each boss's full drop table: coin drops plus every alchable worth more than a cast, alched. Left out: gear and uniques you would keep, anything rarer than 1 in 150 (too rare to plan around), items that can't be alched, and anything worth less than a cast. Runes and other supplies that alch for more than a cast are counted, though you may prefer to use them. Raids and minigame rewards aren't included because their loot depends on points or team size. Kills per hour depend on your gear, so divide by your own kill time.

Pickpocketing: coins per success
Each row is the next target that pays more coins than everything below its level. The figure is the average coin drop per successful pickpocket, before failed attempts and stuns, which depend on your level and gear.

Make it, then alch it
The big number is what making the item adds per action: its alch value, minus the nature rune, minus what you would have got by alching the materials as they were. That is the honest gain, since bars, gems and logs often alch for something on their own. Under it: the full alch per action, and the result if you buy every input a shop sells at its cheapest shop price (elemental battlestaves are the classic case where that still pays). Gear you would wear and anything worth over 200,000 to alch is left out, since those come from rare drops you would use. Levels are for the making skill; alching also needs 55 Magic.

Gather it, then alch it
Raw resources worth more than a cast. Most gathered items are worth more to an Ironman as supplies, so treat these as what the spare ones are worth in coins.

Shops that pay more than High Alchemy
A shop that stocks an item buys it back, and a few specialist shops pay more than its alch value without costing a nature rune. The price shown is what the shop pays for the first one; most shops offer less for each one they already hold, and some shops sit behind a quest or a diary.

Clue caskets: what they hold
Clues are rarely worth doing for coins alone. You do them for ranger boots, blessed dragonhide, the collection log and the odd big unique, and the caskets add alchables and runes on the way. We have every casket reward on record but not the casket rates, so instead of a made-up average we show the ordinary items in each tier that alch for more than a cast, and where the scrolls drop.
Clues come to you while you do other things: Slayer and boss drops, bird nests while chopping trees, clue bottles while fishing, and clue geodes while mining. To farm a tier on purpose, catch implings in Puro-Puro (young and gourmet for easy, eclectic and essence for medium, magpie and ninja for hard, dragon and crystal for elite), or pickpocket H.A.M. members for easy clues. Combat Achievement rewards raise most clue drop rates, and filled STASH units and teleports make every step quicker.

Questions
- What is the best money maker for an Ironman?
- At our default rates, the best repeatable methods are vorkath, zaff's daily battlestaves, double nature runes with the diary cape. Cashing in a stock you already hold, such as runite ore into rune swords or drop battlestaves into elemental staves, pays far more per hour but only lasts as long as the stock. Change the rates in the table to match your own speed.
- Which Ironman money makers are safe for a Hardcore?
- Everything outside the Wilderness that doesn't involve a risky fight: thieving, ruby rings, eclipse red, battlestaves, smithing and fletching to alch, amethyst and runecrafting. Tick "Hardcore-safe" in the table to hide the rest.
- What makes the most coins per kill for an Ironman?
- Of the bosses with a full drop table on record, Corporeal Beast comes out on top at about 69,993 coins per kill once its alchables are cast, then Alchemical Hydra and Skotizo. Kills per hour vary a lot by gear, so compare per hour yourself.
- Can an Ironman buy items from shops and alch them for profit?
- A few shop items alch for more than they cost plus a nature rune: Ruby ring. Stock is small, so it is pocket money.
- How much does one High Alchemy cast cost?
- 180 coins with a fire staff (one nature rune at the cheapest shop price), or 200 coins if you also buy the five fire runes.
