Ironman verdict

Staff of air is a free-to-play item. Other players trade it, but an Ironman cannot use the Grand Exchange or trade, so you get your own. We list 3 monsters, 6 shops, 3 recipes and 8 other sources for it.

The easiest way is to buy it: the cheapest of the shops that stock it is Zaff's Superior Staffs! in Varrock, at 1,500 coins each. You can also make it, no skill level needed, from Staff of earth at a crystal ball space. That is the lowest-level of its 3 recipes. If you would rather kill for it, the lowest-level monster that drops it is Air elemental (level 34), at 2/128, about one in 64 kills. The best rate is from Zombie (Tarn's Lair): 3/128. The 2 monsters we list with a combat level range from level 34 to 55. It also comes from 8 other sources, such as Broken staff and Vampyre Juvinate. It is on the easy clue scroll reward table, so every easy clue you complete is a chance at it.

It is worn in the one-handed weapons slot, attacking every 5 ticks; its biggest bonuses are +10 magic attack and +10 magic defence. Shops stock it in 6 places, including Varrock, Wizards' Guild, Lunar Isle and Arceuus.

It is a material in 3 recipes: Staff of earth, Staff of fire and Staff of water. High Alchemy (55 Magic) turns one into 900 coins. Each cast uses a nature rune, 180 coins from a rune shop, and five fire runes that a fire staff replaces, so an alch nets about 720 coins.
