Steel med helm

Steel med helm is a free-to-play item. Other players trade it, but an Ironman cannot use the Grand Exchange or trade, so you get your own. We list 9 monsters, 5 shops, 1 recipe and 8 other sources for it.

The easiest way is to buy it: the cheapest of the shops that stock it is Helmet Shop in Barbarian Village, at 300 coins each. Across the 5 shops that take coins, the price runs from 300 to 390. You can also make it with 33 Smithing from Steel bar at an anvil. Each one made gives 37.5 Smithing XP. If you would rather kill for it, the lowest-level monster that drops it is Tower guard (level 28), at 1/128, about one in 128 kills. The best rate is from Wall beast (level 49): 7/128. The 7 monsters we list with a combat level range from level 28 to 113. It also comes from 8 other sources, such as Ava's accumulator and Ranging cape.

The material you can buy or make: Steel bar, made with 30 Smithing.

It is worn in the head slot; its biggest bonuses are +8 slash defence and +7 stab defence. Shops stock it in 5 places, including Barbarian Village, Shayzien, Warriors' Guild and Keldagrim.

No recipe in our data uses it as a material. High Alchemy (55 Magic) turns one into 180 coins. Each cast uses a nature rune, 180 coins from a rune shop, and five fire runes that a fire staff replaces, so an alch only breaks even.
