Steel sword

Steel sword is a free-to-play item. Other players trade it, but an Ironman cannot use the Grand Exchange or trade, so you get your own. We list 8 monsters, 4 shops, 1 recipe and 8 other sources for it.

The easiest way is to buy it: the cheapest of the shops that stock it is Varrock Swordshop in Varrock, at 325 coins each. Across the 4 shops that take coins, the price runs from 325 to 390. You can also make it with 34 Smithing from Steel bar at an anvil. Each one made gives 37.5 Smithing XP. If you would rather kill for it, the lowest-level monster that drops it is White Knight (level 39), at 2/128, about one in 64 kills. The best rate is from Spiritual warrior: 7/127. The 5 monsters we list with a combat level range from level 39 to 81. It also comes from 8 other sources, such as Rusty sword and Simple lockbox.

The material you can buy or make: Steel bar, made with 30 Smithing.

It is worn in the one-handed weapons slot, attacking every 4 ticks; its biggest bonuses are +12 melee strength and +11 stab attack. Shops stock it in 4 places, including Varrock, Shayzien, Cam Torum and Warriors' Guild.

No recipe in our data uses it as a material. High Alchemy (55 Magic) turns one into 195 coins. Each cast uses a nature rune, 180 coins from a rune shop, and five fire runes that a fire staff replaces, so an alch nets about 15 coins.
