Ironman verdict

Steel sq shield is a free-to-play item. Other players trade it, but an Ironman cannot use the Grand Exchange or trade, so you get your own. We list 2 monsters, 2 shops, 1 recipe and 2 other sources for it.

The easiest way is to buy it: the cheapest of the shops that stock it is Cam Torum Blacksmith in Cam Torum, at 600 coins each. You can also make it with 38 Smithing from 2 × Steel bar at an anvil. Each one made gives 75 Smithing XP. If you would rather kill for it, the lowest-level monster that drops it is Bandit (level 22), at 2/128, about one in 64 kills. That monster also has the best drop rate we list. It also comes from 2 other sources, such as Simple lockbox and Elaborate lockbox.

The material you can buy or make: Steel bar (2 needed), made with 30 Smithing.

It is worn in the shield slot; its biggest bonuses are +13 slash defence and +12 stab defence. Shops stock it in 2 places, including Cam Torum and Mistrock.

No recipe in our data uses it as a material. High Alchemy (55 Magic) turns one into 360 coins. Each cast uses a nature rune, 180 coins from a rune shop, and five fire runes that a fire staff replaces, so an alch nets about 180 coins.
