Ironman verdict

Steel knife is a members item. Other players trade it, but an Ironman cannot use the Grand Exchange or trade, so you get your own. We list 7 monsters, 2 shops, 1 recipe and 4 other sources for it.

The easiest way is to buy it: the cheapest of the shops that stock it is Martin Thwait's Lost and Found, at 11 coins each. You can also make it with 37 Smithing from Steel bar at an anvil. Each one made gives 37.5 Smithing XP. If you would rather kill for it, the lowest-level monster that drops it is Skeleton heavy (level 130), at 3/128, about one in 43 kills. The best rate is from Dagannoth Supreme (level 303): 5/128, 50–150 at a time. The 7 monsters we list with a combat level range from level 130 to 303. It also comes from 4 other sources, such as Ava's accumulator and Ranging cape.

It is worn in the one-handed weapons slot, attacking every 3 ticks; its biggest bonuses are +8 ranged attack and +7 ranged strength. Among the bosses we cover, Dagannoth Supreme drops it. The shop that stocks it is in Tal Teklan.

It is a material in 3 recipes: Steel knife(p), Steel knife(p+) and Steel knife(p++). High Alchemy (55 Magic) turns one into 6 coins. Each cast uses a nature rune, 180 coins from a rune shop, and five fire runes that a fire staff replaces, so an alch loses about 174 coins; only alch it to clear space.
