Ironman verdict
Raw sardine is a free-to-play item. Other players trade it, but an Ironman cannot use the Grand Exchange or trade, so you get your own. We list 7 monsters, 5 shops and 6 other sources for it.
The easiest way is to buy it: the cheapest of the shops that stock it is Gerrant's Fishy Business in Port Sarim, at 10 coins each. If you would rather kill for it, the lowest-level monster that drops it is Hermit crab (level 19), at 6/128, about one in 21 kills. The best rate is from Dagannoth spawn (level 42): 10/128. The 5 monsters we list with a combat level range from level 19 to 60. It also comes from 6 other sources, such as Fishing Trawler and Bowl of fish.
It is a reward from Fishing Trawler. Shops stock it in 5 places, including Port Sarim, Witchaven, Mos Le'Harmless and Port Piscarilius.
It is a material in 2 recipes: Seasoned sardine and Sardine (1 Cooking). High Alchemy (55 Magic) turns one into 6 coins. Each cast uses a nature rune, 180 coins from a rune shop, and five fire runes that a fire staff replaces, so an alch loses about 174 coins; only alch it to clear space.
