It is worn in the head slot; its biggest bonuses are +32 slash defence and +30 stab defence.
No recipe in our data uses it as a material. High Alchemy (55 Magic) turns one into 21,120 coins. Each cast uses a nature rune, 180 coins from a rune shop, and five fire runes that a fire staff replaces, so an alch nets about 20,940 coins.
